Course objectives: Setting a reasoned public health policy requires not only knowledge of the health status of the population and its determinants, but also consideration of the social, cultural, economic, political and ethical aspects which relate to the particular issue at hand. Evaluating the evidence for the adoption of any particular policy is considered the basis of sound practice however it is not always simple or even possible.  Moreover, it is important to recognize the different and frequently competing values which may come to play when considering a new or change in policy.  Students will be expected to identify and analyze the different lenses and values at play when determining health policy.  We will use case studies in Maternal and Child Health to illustrate these issues.
